Spooky Slots Feature – Halloween Fortune II and Paranormal Activity

Some of the web’s spookier slots are nothing short of scary good. By contrast, others are nothing short of scary…for all the wrong reasons. If you’re looking for a way of spicing up the spooky season with a few spins, you’re definitely spoilt for choice. All-time classics, new additions to the market and old favourites you’d forgotten even existing, there’s plenty to pick from when it comes to ghostly games.

So we once again thought we’d share a couple of prime candidates – both of which have attracted plenty of attention from gamers globally. The only question being, do they really live up to expectations?

Paranormal Activity

If you’ve seen Paranormal Activity, you’ll know it’s one of the creepiest movie franchises ever. How exactly you’d go about recreating this as a slot however…well, the folks at iSoftBet certainly had their work cut out. Nevertheless, they did it with gusto!

You’re looking at a five-reel slot with a massive 243 paylines, packed with stacked and added wilds, three free spin features and plenty more besides. Extra wilds are loaded onto the reels when the ‘Paranormal Event’ occurs, while bets are accepted from 30p up to a maximum of £30 with each spin.

The fact that this slot was indeed produced in conjunction with Paramount Pictures goes some way to explain its impressive visual appeal. Well, we say ‘appeal’, but what we actually mean is that it’s way, WAY creepier than most horror slots. If you’re expecting cartoon visuals and a ‘cute’ take on scary, you can forget about it. The soundtrack is likewise rather on the spine-tingling side of things.

The symbols take the form of banknotes, lights, cameras, ghosts and various playing card values. The wild symbol takes the form of a child with the most terrifying eyes you’ll ever see and is good for taking the place of all symbols, aside from the bonus and the scatter. The scatter symbol appears as a hand, which can see you winning up to 25X your wagers when landed in succession in any position.

Landing the bonus symbol on the first, third and fifth reels gives you a spin on the bonus wheels, opening up one of three free spins features.

Paranormal Free Spins feature – Keep on spinning for free until you’ve hit five winning lines, with each winning lines attaching a multiplier, first 1X, then 2X, then 3X and so on.

Possessed Free Spins feature – Play with 10 free spins and increase the likelihood of winning with extra wilds on the reels.

Demon Free Spins feature – Play with 15 free spins with the chance of more symbols being turned wild by the Demon.

As for the Paranormal Event feature, it kicks in randomly from time to time and can add a maximum of five wilds to the reels during normal play.

In a technical sense, the special features Paranormal Activity presents aren’t massively innovative or really anything new. However, the way they’re presented is something very special indeed. What’s more, payouts can go as high as 400X your wager, meaning there are solid wins to play for too.

Regardless of whether or not you liked (or even saw) the movie, you’ll probably find Paranormal Activity one of the creepiest slots you’ve ever come across. It doesn’t have the same jump scares, but in terms of setting the kind of mood that’s nothing short of chilling, it really does deliver the goods.

Halloween Fortune II

In case you hadn’t already figured it out, Halloween Fortune II is the follow-up to Playtech’s Halloween Fortune. Given the fact that the first outing was hugely popular and successful, you’d expect even bigger and better things this time around. Not that all sequels deliver, but given the buzz surrounding Halloween Fortune II, it certainly looks like they’ve gone and done it again.

As for the specifics, it’s a five-reel slot with a total of 25 paylines – all of which are in play at all times. Bets start from as little as 25p per spin and go all the way up to a massive £250 per spin. It’s therefore suitable for players at all levels, the graphics have all been taken up a notch since the first iteration and of course…it’s all based around a spooky Halloween theme.

Players are transported to the heart of a fantasy forest, where they’re greeted by symbols including potions, ravens, black cats, candles and skulls. It’s the pumpkin symbol you’ll want to be saying your prayers for, mind, with wins of up to 3,000X your wager available if you hit five on a winning payline. The pumpkin is also the wild and can take the place of any symbol, apart from the scatter – the Halloween Fortune II symbol.

Playing Halloween Fortune II is a relatively simple experience and there’s the choice of switching to Turbo Mode if you’re more about results than enjoying the ride. All it does is speed up the reels and make it all happen a bit quicker. Above all else with Halloween Fortune II, it’s the Free Games feature you’ll find yourself gunning for, which can be accessed by landing three of those scatter symbols at any positions on the reels.

When this happens, you’ll be lavished with 10 free spins and a multiplier that increases after every two spins. It starts out at 2X, then keeps on increasing up to the final two spins that attach a generous 6X multiplier. What’s even better is that the middle reel features the wild symbol for the entire duration of the feature, increasing your chances of taking home big wins. It’s just a shame you can’t keep triggering more free spins during the feature, but there you go.

If you liked the first Halloween Fortune, you’ll love Halloween Fortune II. It’s pretty much an identical recipe, only tuned and tweaked in every way that matters. There are big wins on offer, it’s simple enough to get nicely immersed in right away and the Free Games feature really is awesome.
