Luck of the Irish? Rainbow Jackpots vs Rainbow Riches

By | January 21, 2017

There’s such an endless array of Irish-themed slots on the market right now that it can be difficult to know where to start. You only have to search for the word ‘Rainbow’ and you’ll no doubt be returned with dozens of slots that look and sound very similar. When put to the test though, the differences quickly begin to show.

Which is why we thought that for this piece, we’d take a look at a couple of Rainbow-entitled slots to see how they stack up against the rest. Both Rainbow Jackpots and Rainbow riches have huge fan bases all over the world, but which of the two (if any) is worth your time and money?

Rainbow Jackpots

Kicking off with Rainbow Jackpots first, what we’re looking at here is a five-reel, four-row slot with 20 paylines in play at all times. Spins start from just 20p, so all budgets are catered to across the board. We had a good go with Rainbow Jackpots across desktop and mobile devices alike, finding the experience hugely enjoyable via multiple platforms. And of course, there’s much to be said for the chance of taking home a jackpot worth a whopping 1,000X your stake!

In terms of visuals, Rainbow Jackpots is relatively simple and nothing you won’t have seen before. All the usual standards are here in the set of symbols you’ll be working with – clovers, horseshoes, leprechaun hats and the usual playing card values. The wild card to be on the lookout for is the golden coin. It’s a light-hearted slot with a typically Irish-esque soundtrack in the background, occasionally punctuated by the enthusiastic leprechaun with the slightly squeaky voice.

As for those bonus features, the first is the Free Spins round that can be accessed by landing three of the…you guessed it, Free Spins symbols. Which is good in its own right, but if you’re lucky enough to be visited by the leprechaun, he’ll blow his magic pipe and trigger the Mega Free Spins bonus round. The difference being that in the case of the latter, you might be gifted with up to 100 free spins.

There’s also a Beer Bonus symbol that will send you into the bonus feature with the same name. This time, it’s a case of choosing from the pint glasses in front of you to uncover prizes respectively. The biggest prize on offer is a generous 100X your stake, though once again it’s possible that the leprechaun will do his thing and send you into the Triple Beer Bonus feature. If this happens, you could be set to take home a whopping 1,000X your stake!

Throughout the base game, he might turn up and swap a bunch of symbols out to create a winning line at any time. Suffice to say, every time he gets involved in your game, you’ll be thankful!

On the whole, Rainbow Jackpots is the kind of game where perseverance pays. Sometime. Chances are you’ll experience quite a few dry spells along the way that might have you feeling like leaving. However, make your way into the bonus rounds and you’ll be glad you stopped by.

Rainbow Riches

As for Rainbow Riches…well, what can we say about one of the most popular slots ever made? Cooked up by the geniuses at Barcrest, it’s the original in its class and many would argue also the best. The jackpot of 500 coins might not be the most generous, but it boasts three awesome bonus features that will definitely have you coming back for more.

There’s the Road to Riches Bonus feature, which you’ll activate upon landing at least three Bonus Leprechaun symbols in any positions. Long story short, you spin the wheel to determine how many steps you’ll take along the path, willing up to 500X your stake along the way.

Then there’s the Wishing Well Bonus feature, which opens up after landing three of more Wishing Well bonus symbols. In this bonus round, you’ll be asked to pick from three whishing wells, which will then show you the multiplier that will be applied to your stake. Like the bonus round mentioned above, the maximum payout here is a full 500X your stake.

Thirdly and finally comes perhaps the best of the three bonus rounds – the Pots of Gold feature. You’ll see pots of bronze, silver and gold spinning around the screen – one of which the arrow will point to when they stop. You’ll then be awarded a multiplier on your stake of up to 500X. We say this is the best because in our experience it offers the biggest multipliers of the three! This might not be the same for everyone, but it certainly did the business for us.

What’s interesting about Rainbow Riches compared to many of its rivals is the fact that the base game itself is responsible for paying out most of the wins. The bonus games are great, but can be surprisingly hard to access. Which in turn means you’ll need patience, but at the same time it tends to pay out quite frequently during normal play. Not massive amounts, but relatively often. And that’s exactly what makes it such a hit with players at all levels all over the world. Rainbow Riches is the kind of game you can dip in an out of any time and still have a great time – especially if you manage to make your way into any of those bonus rounds!
