Green Lantern Slot by Playtech – 2017’s New Front-Runner?

Better late than never? That’s definitely the first thing that springs to mind when it comes to the latest slot from Playtech. Based on the 2011 movie with Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, Green Lantern appears to have been five years in the making. Well, in reality it’s actually a case of licensing stuff and rights etc., but what we can say for sure is that this appearance by the Green Lantern seems to have been more than worth the wait!

If you didn’t catch the movie, it follows the fantastical tale of Hal Jordan – aka the Green Lantern – who works as a test pilot. After being granted superpowers, he of course finds himself squaring off against evil to save the universe and so on and so forth. A familiar tale told really well and a must for fans of the original comics!

A New Slot Superhero?

Anyway, Green Lantern in this guise appears as a five-reel, 243-payline slot that’s good across desktop and mobile devices alike. It caters to players at both extremes of the budget scale – spins starting out at 40p and going as high as a whopping £2,000 each! And given the fact that it comes courtesy of the gurus at Playtech, you of course know that it’s going to look and sound brilliant…which it absolutely does!

All the characters you’d expect from the movie are out in force – just a few of the symbols include Green Lantern, Guardian of Oa, Sinestro, Kilowog, Tomar-Re and all the usual playing card values besides. Unsurprisingly, it’s the Green Lantern symbol that has the potential to throw out the biggest prizes during normal play – score five in a row on a winning payline for a generous 500 coins. There’s also a wild in the form of a ring, which is good for replacing all other symbols in the game and is limited to the second, third and fourth reels.

Collapsing Feature

One of the best things about Green Lantern during normal play is the way in which it boasts the hugely-enjoyable collapsing feature. This basically means that when and where winning combinations of any kind are hit, the symbols are removed and those above fall in to fill the gaps. As such, it’s possible to win multiple times with each spin during normal play – something we absolutely love!

In addition, every win that happens after the next will see one block of the win bar filled in. If four or more wins happen consecutively, you’re in for an added bonus in the form of one of three randomly triggered ‘missions’. You’ll also be awarded a mission ‘charge’ in accordance with how many wins in a row you stacked up to a maximum of eight wins and charge level 3. Long story short, the more wins and the higher the charge, the better for you!

As for the missions, there’s the Fear Fight Mission where the symbols from the spin before all explode, with the exception of the stacking wilds. These remain at the bottom of the screen for the duration of the feature, during which you’ll be able to keep spinning until you reach the maximum allocated number of stacking wilds in accordance with your charge level. Charge 1 means you’ll get an allowance of five stacking wilds, charge 2 means six and charge 3 means seven.

Then there’s the Training Centre Mission, where along with a bunch of additional wilds you’ll be given 10 free spins to play with. Once again, the higher the charge you earned on your way into the missions, the better. There are grenade wilds, missile wilds and punch wilds available for charge levels 1, 2 and 3 respectively.

Keeping up so far?

More Missions
Next up, the Secret Sector Mission provides you with a dynamic win multiplier to go along with your 10 free spins. This starts out at 2X or 3X depending on your charge level and then goes on to increase with every consecutive win by way of collapsing symbols. On the whole, it’s possible to take things as high as a 9X multiplier during the round, meaning potentially huge wins.

Last but not least, given the way in which this outstanding slot is part and parcel of the DC Super Heroes Jackpot network, this also means that there are an incredible four progressive jackpots to play for. These exist in the form of the Mini, Minor, Major or Grand Jackpot, which in the case of Green Lantern can be accessed by collecting jackpot icons. The odds of hitting the highest of jackpots aren’t exactly huge, but if you do, you’re talking a life-changing sum of cash that’s previously hit the multi-million mark.

So whichever way you look at it, more than enough reason for just one more spin!

The Green Lantern movie back in 2011 may have disappointed at the box office, but the slot is by far one of the best to be released in 2017 so far. We know the year is young, but this has staying power and long-term value written all over it. It plays like a dream, there are tons of clever bonus features on offer and that progressive jackpot is always alluring!

Even if comic books aren’t usually your thing, there’s more than enough to keep you coming back for more with Green Lantern from Playtech.
