You name it, chances are there’s a whole bunch of slots that deliver it. There really aren’t many themes these days that haven’t been used to create pretty awesome slots – some more than others. Take for example, the humble dolphin – dozens of slots from leading names have been built around the world’s favourite fish. (Yes, we know dolphins aren’t actually fish!) So today, we thought we’d take a look at two of the very best examples out there right now – Dolphin Gold and Dolphin’s Pearl Deluxe.
So we invite you to dive in head-first and find out whether one or both of these superb slots are worth your time and money.
First up, we have the folks at Lightning Box Games to thank for Dolphin Gold, which is a five-reel slot with 40 paylines and spins on offer from 40p right up to £80. Unsurprisingly, it is a decidedly aquatic theme populated by all the kinds of characters you’d expect in an undersea kingdom. But given the fact that it’s the dolphins that are handing out the bigger rewards, these are the guys you need to be keeping your eyes out for.
Dolphin Gold looks great and has the kind of soundtrack that’ll be stuck in your head for days…in a good way. The blue dolphin represents both the scatter and the wild symbol in one, which when present in a winning line also adds a 2X multiplier into the equation. It only appears on the second, third and fourth reels, but when it does, you’ll be glad it stopped by.
The most promising feature of all with Dolphin Gold is the Free Games round, but you’ll need to get at least six scatter/wild symbols on the reels to enter the feature. When you do, you’ll be given up to 21 free spins, depending on how many of the symbols you landed in the first place. It’s also possible to go on re-triggering the free spins indefinitely, by landing the same symbols that got you there in the first place.
Better yet, during the free games feature you’ll be lavished with additional Wild Gold Dolphin symbols, which along with doubling all wins also means the possibility of up to 16 symbols on the screen becoming wild.
Which is pretty much where the action comes to an end with Dolphin Gold. Truth be told, there isn’t a great deal to say about the base game, though it’s more than enjoyable enough for a few spins. However, if you managed to make your way into the free games feature, you’ll probably have more than enough fun to lure you back for more! And given the fact that it comes from a brand that usually takes a back seat to the biggest names in the business, it really isn’t too bad at all!
With a slightly more complex name and the pedigree of Novomatic behind it, Dolphin’s Pearl Deluxe is a five-reel, 10-payline slot that looks, sounds and feels very familiar. As it should, given the fact that it is a deluxe version of the hugely popular real-life and online slot, Dolphin’s Pearl. Once again, it’s a highly wet and watery theme on the whole, populated by all the usual sea creatures and gorgeous scenery to enchant the eye. Just like with the original, the idea is to gather as many pearls as possible, in order to stack up the biggest possible wins.
What makes the difference between the original Dolphin’s Pearl and Dolphin’s Pearl Deluxe? Not a great deal really, just the addition of one extra payline! Actually that’s not true, as the visuals and the soundtrack have also been kicked up more than a few notches this time around. You can bet from as little as 10p or take things are far as £100 per spin, with the dolphin (of course) being the most valuable symbol to play for. While four of these guys on a winning payline will net you 250X your bet, score five in a row and you’ll be looking at a whopping 900X your wager! There’s also an oyster with a pearl, which can see you taking home up to 500X your bet if you land five in a row.
Five of the symbols in the game can form winning combinations with just TWO of them in a row on any winning payline. These are the oyster, the 9, the lobster, the stingray and the dolphin. Other than these, the rest of the symbols need to be lined up at least three-strong to win a prize. Interestingly though, Dolphin’s Pearl Deluxe is the kind of game that tends to pay out VERY infrequently, but generously when it does. So even though you can win with two-symbol line-ups, it really doesn’t happen very often at all!
The dolphin serves as the wild and the oyster is the scatter – land three scatters or more and you’ll be taken to the free spins round where the action really happens. Along with being provided with 15 free spins, anything you win during the bonus round will be increased 3X. And yes, the free spins can be retriggered, which is always nice!
On the whole therefore, Dolphin’s Pearl Deluxe is the kind of high-variance game that’s great for those with enough patience (and cash) to go long-haul and stick with it. But if you’re chasing regular payouts of even a modest nature, this probably isn’t the slot for you!
