For today’s slot inspection, we thought we’d do something a little different and pluck two popular titles out completely at random. After all, we wouldn’t want to miss out on some of the classics out there that might otherwise go overlooked! Specifically, we put Sumo Kitty and Super Flip through their paces, which despite sharing the common trait of being rather wacky couldn’t be more different in terms of both themes and what’s on offer.
The question being – which of the two should you check out first?
In terms of Sumo Kitty from Bally Technologies, the theme is…of course…one that follows the tale of a Japanese wrestling cat. Creative to say the least, which in this instance is delivered in the form of a five-reel slot with 1,024 paylines and spins on offer from 50p right up to £800. It’s a seriously fast-paced and energetic slot that’s earned a huge fan-base all over the world.
As for what’s on offer, with 1,024 ways to win it doesn’t follow the usual payline structure you might be used to. But of course, there’s no such thing as there ever being too many ways to win! The theme is predominantly Japanese and the symbols follow suit, with bonsai trees, lotus flowers, koi carp and so on joining the action. Of course, the star of the show is the Sumo Kitty itself, which upon landing five in a winning combination will see you walking away with a generous 250X your bet.
You’ll see the Sumo Kitty taking up much of the top half of the screen with the reels below. During play, symbols that look to have been taken from Tetris randomly fall onto the second, third and fourth reels, creating Hot Zones. What this basically means is benefiting from any number of added wilds and bigger potential wins.
There’s a free spins feature that can be accessed by landing the sumo scatter symbol on the first, third and fifth reels in any position. You’ll also be able to choose from one of three options – those being five free spins with a multiplier of up to 20X, ten free spins with a maximum 10X multiplier available or 20 free spins with a maximum 5X multiplier available.
As you can probably figure out from the above, Sumo Kitty is for the most part all about getting yourself into the free spins feature and making the most of those multipliers. But at the same time, the fact that there are so many ways to win means that the base game itself is surprisingly enjoyable. It could probably benefit from a couple of additional features, but it’s more than entertaining enough to justify a few spins here and there.
Next up, we gave Super Flip from the folks at Play ‘N Go our attention and found it to be great fun on the whole. Not quite as complex as the previous slot in terms of winning combinations, Super Flip is a classic five-reel slot with 20 paylines to play for and spins that range from 20p right up to £100 each.
The theme is basically a modern take on the kinds of classic arcade slots the whole world knows and loves, with symbols including stars, hearts, horseshoes, jewels and the usual playing card suits. It’s not a million miles from Starburst in the way it looks and feels – all of which is to its credit, of course.
One of the best features presented by Super Flip is the Near Win Respin feature, which as the name suggests gives you the opportunity to spin select reels once again if you come close to winning. This occurs when you land a full stack of any symbol on reels one and two, but don’t come out with a win. You’ll be able to spin the other reels once again, while the high-value first two reels lock in place.
There’s also a free spins feature to play for, which can be accessed by landing at least three scatters which take the form of the Super Flip symbol. When this happens, things ‘flip’ around a little in that the first reel appears last and the last reel appears first. All in all, this means a greater chance of taking home bigger prizes.
As for the free spins themselves, you start out with 15 to play with but these can be retriggered up to a maximum of 90 free spins available. It’s also worth noting that the Near Win Respin feature also remains active throughout the free spins feature. Incredibly, the highest possible payout you can win if you manage to fill the entire screen with wild symbols is a full 1 million coins! Not that this is the kind of thing that happens often, but the fact that it can happen makes Super Flip more than worth trying your luck with once or twice.
On the whole, Super Flip is a fun game to spend time with as the action is fast-paced and the overall entertainment level high. The base game is decent enough and kept fresh with a few interesting features, but it is once you make your way into that free spins round that things really get interesting. It doesn’t pay out the biggest wins on a regular basis, but when it does, they have the potential to be seriously big wins indeed!
